Dr. James Kolm
Practice Summary

Dr James Kolm
My goal as a counselor is create a supportive environment in which you feel comfortable exploring the issues in your life that may be keeping you from reaching your goals, or being the person you want to be.  My relationship with you is both collaborative and dynamic.  I’m a high functioning alcoholic, though I’ve not had a drink in almost 3 years (as of Nov 2012).  I’ve embraced the Rational Recovery Addictive Voice Recognition Therapy (AVRT) model, and I enjoy helping others reach the success I’ve found.  I specialize in helping high functioning professional males with addiction issues, though I do work with teens and adults of all gender/ages on various issues.
My practice is built around the areas that have been particularly troubling for me in my personal life, and for which I’ve found first hand experience developing techniques to cope:

  • Alcohol/Abuse: Focus on Rational Recovery and Addictive Voice Recognition Therapy for alcohol, nicotine and eating issues
  • Sexuality Gender:  Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender issues
  • Depression and Suicidal Ideation: Coping skills, self-esteem issues, thinking disorders and psychosis
